What is your favourite thing about working at Green-tech and how long have you worked here?
I’ve been at Green-tech about 10 months now and my favourite thing about the company is definitely the people and working culture. Oh, and of course Alice’s amazing brownies!
What made you want to work in the landscaping industry?
I’ve always had a passion for horticulture, but about 6 years ago I decided to make it my career pathway. After achieving a First-Class Honours degree in Horticulture, I managed a soft landscaping team on a multi-million-pound project before settling into my role at Green-tech.
What is your favourite memory at Green-tech?
Christmas was definitely a fun time. Everyone was in good spirits, decorating the office and sharing festive stories. It made for a relaxing and friendly office atmosphere.
Where would you say is a dream holiday destination for you?
Anyone who knows me is aware of my love for Scotland and I will always pick it as the place to visit! But if we’re thinking further afield, I’d love to visit Japan one day. I’m keen to experience Ancient and Modern Japan all in the same trip and visit all the beautiful gardens which are so different to what we’re used to here in the UK.
Who is your role model or inspiration?
I can’t narrow it down to one person in particular and I don’t believe in putting any one person up on a pedestal. However, I’m forever in awe of family and friends who overcome challenges and hardships to achieve their dreams and aspirations. Seeing this hard work and dedication from them inspires me to chase my own dreams and have the determination to succeed both personally and professionally.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I spend as much of my free time outdoors where possible. I’m a keen horticulturalist and I am always working on my garden, whether that be building ponds, tending to the kitchen garden, or working in the greenhouse. I read a lot too with a particular passion for Scottish historical fiction, books about changes to the English countryside and anything to do with rewilding! My children and I are also always out walking and exploring new places and visiting historical sites. When I must be indoors it’s usually spent in the dojo spending hours (attempting) to improve my karate!
Name 3 dream dinner guests?
Just 3? There’s so much choice! However, If I had to narrow it down, I’d have to say Sir David Attenborough (for obvious reasons), Simone de Beauvoir (to hear more of her philosophical ideas) and Geoff Hamilton (who first inspired my love of gardening).
If you were stuck on a desert island what 3 objects would you take with you?
Knowing of course that I’d be rescued then I’d take a book from my ‘must read’ list and enjoy some peace and quiet, factor 50 suncream is a must as I will definitely burn, and my German Shepherd Ursa for company (although I’m not sure she’d thank me for the heat).
Which do you prefer- Rural or urban landscapes?
Always rural. I’m a country girl at heart.
Who is the funniest person at Green-tech?
At the risk of boosting his ego far too much, I will have to say Wexy. But on the Specifier team we always have fun.
